Selena
She broke down barriers within the music industry in her roles as a performer, singer and designer. She was both traditional and modern, a Mexican American who brought two worlds in a distinct manner. Her sudden passing that destroyed her reputation. That's what happens to many stars who die far too young. In the following years, people were inspired to work even harder to make sure that Selena's achievements would not be forgotten. Her tragic death in a shooting caused a reaction in the Latino Community that was comparable with the reactions to the death of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. Selena was an extremely well-known Latino performer throughout North America. Her music transcended the boundaries of culture and touched the hearts of younger and more mature adults. Selena has been called by many as the Latina Madonna, however she is still a great role model. Selena's off-stage family values and her participation with AIDS awareness programs make her a good example.
